U-Multirank: Multi- dimensional Global ranking of Universities; a feasibility project.
This is a project funded by the European Commission led by a consortium headed by CHEPS in the Netherlands. It is concerned with field-based ranking of HEIs.
According to the project's website:
'A field-based ranking is a multi-dimensional ranking of a set of study programmes in a specific field or discipline of higher education. Rankings of study programmes can only be meaningfully interpreted within the wider context provided by the multi-dimensional classification of entire institutions. Achieving field-based rankings within meaningful classifications of institutions is a major aim of the project. In order to design the field-based rankings, the methodology of CHE’s well-established university ranking and its international Excellence Ranking will be elaborated.
The objective of the feasibility study then is to design and test both a number of focused institutional rankings (along the dimensions of a multi-dimensional classification) and a set of field-based rankings (for different programmes in groups of institutions with high levels of similarity in relevant profiles as defined by the dimensions of the classification)'.
More details are found at http://www.u-multirank.eu/ and readers should note that there is a free half-day seminar on the project in Brussels on 9 June 2011. For a place contact [email protected]
