PUMR’s Latest News
Professor Powell recently gave a series of lectures to universities in Puglia, Italy about PUMR and its implications with respect to improving the relationships between universities and their city regions. The series was organised by Dttr. Ettore Ruggiero, Director of Universus in Bari, where local universities are keen to become part of the PUMR assessment, coaching, evaluation and validation programme. The presentation's starting point was a recent communiqué from the European Committee of the Regions which indicates:
- Old practices and structures are not enough to achieve future goals
- We must improve the welfare and quality of life of our citizens
- There is a big gap between the latest research knowledge and real life practices
- Universities must recognise their role in creating sustainable products and processes
- We must create platforms for change where universities, public bodies and those from private and third sectors can operate together
- Help is needed to develop a new and creative culture to facilitate this
PUMR has been developed specifically to provide the help for this kind of collaborative development, so a strong bond between PUMR and Universus for Puglia should soon result.
