About the Outreach

Leeds Metropolitain University teamed up with financially-struggling Bradford City Football Club to help its recovery from near collapse. The university's efforts are part of its Yorkshire First Foundation initiative to increase access to training and education. A range of partnerships and projects have developed, with the club and the community working together and a charitable company was formed to assist in the development of new funding opportunities to finance sport, education and community activities. Engagement with the BME community has increased and a THES Award recognised this in early 2006.

About David Ward

David has been a councillor for nearly 23 years and is a qualified accountant.  He worked for Leeds University since 1986 as a principle lecturer but since 2004 was seconded to work at Bradford City Football Club to develop links between the club and its local community.  He is now also helping to create social enterprises.
