Universities, civic engagement, and city growth: Making purposeful links - London, April 19 2016

National higher education policy is placing a high premium on excellent teaching and research, improving graduate employment and student choice, and focusing on becoming a powerful engine of social mobility.  The social intent is clear, yet market forces at play are creating an intensely competitive environment that is overshadowing universities ability to become more civic in nature and practice.  In the broader context of devolution, city growth, urban regeneration, and community resilience, we ask: How can universities adapt, orchestrate, and fulfil their civic potential? 
 
This roundtable introduces a larger program of work that London South Bank University and Collaborate CIC are developing that focuses on the changing role of universities in an increasingly complex operating environment.  Please join us at this event where a number of cross-sector specialists, experts, and practitioners will be discussing how universities can translate a civic vision into sustainable models over the long term.
